Agenda 2030: The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

In 2015, the international community agreed on 17 global goals that form the guiding principle of sustainable development for all countries and stakeholders. These Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were adopted by the United Nations (UN) and are at the core of the 2030 Agenda. They are called Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) worldwide.

The SDGs encapsulate the vision of sustainable development with 169 sub-goals. They consider the economic, social and ecological dimensions of sustainable development and, for the first time, unite poverty reduction and globally sustainable development under a single agenda.

Collective solutions for global challenges

In a historic moment of global ambition, the 2030 Agenda entered into force on 1 January 2016 for an intended duration of 15 years. The 17 Sustainable Development Goals are to be achieved globally and by all UN member states by 2030. All states are thus equally called upon to solve the world’s pressing challenges together. Switzerland has thereby committed itself to implementing the goals nationally and throughout its global sphere of influence.
